How to continue to make good, strategic business decisions when feeling overwhelmed
I’m writing this as we come to the end of 2023, approximately 6 weeks to go, 5 business weeks.
It’s at this point that many of our prospects start to say things like:
‘I can’t think about this right now, I’ll think about it again in January’
‘Yeah we got it, but we’re pushing it back to January’
‘We’re not starting anything new this quarter’.
Are you hearing stuff like this too?!
Many of our clients are from their prospects. I’ve also heard myself say it once!
Very frustrating when you’re still focused on moving things forwards. But, at the same time, I get it.
We reach this point in the year when the weather changes, the light changes, we all start getting sick and the pressure ramps up because we’re over halfway through the quarter. Social engagements find their way into our calendar, we have to start buying presents, figure out how the hell we’re going to get everything done with time pressure stacking up on us.
It’s a lot and it’s easy to get overwhelmed and start looking for ways to ease the pressure and clear the mind. Delaying things seems like the best option.
However, we’ve all been in the uncomfortable place of firefighting and we know that there will come a time when it ends (or it should… if it’s not, please scroll down to the end of this blog and contact us, we can help you!). As a wave comes in, it also goes out.
If we’re always stuck in the place of focusing on the problems that are here right now, we will never get to the place that we intend to be in. Our vision.
Instead, getting to our vision requires that we take the action aligned with that place, the action that will get us to that place, way before it’s materialising.
We have to:
- Engage the coach
- Work with the consultant to solve the problem that we can’t
- Hire the person we can’t truly afford right now
- Push the team
- Hold the accountability around numbers
- Have control and knowing around our finances
… to be able to bring in the vision.
The action comes first even when things are stressful and crazy and hectic. We must find the time to do the things despite. Sometimes before the time they’re needed.
Taking consistent, aligned action, even when there’s a lot going on, even when you’re going through challenges, is the way. To get to what you want. To get to the best possible future. When you come back to your desk in January, and way longer than that into the future.
